Shallow depth of field

Using a shallow depth of field will  go a long way in making your images pop.  In this picture above the background was a good 4-6ft from the butterflies.  On the other hand i was only about 2ft from them on this side.  When i focused on the butterflies it caused the background to blur out causing my subject to stand out.  This is a tool I use a lot in portraits i do, and another reason i like to be eye level with whoever my subject.  Draws  a lot of attention to what your wanting people to look at in the picture, also allows you to take a good portrait if the background is not the most desirable.  Say your taking a picture of someone, but there is sometime type object that takes away from the picture.  Simply , if space provides, bring the subject out from the object, and make sure your focusing on your subject.  I would say for example 15-20ft from the backside of your subject to the object and maybe only 5-6ft from you and your subject.  Even enhanced even more if your zoomed in to like an upper body shot, which bring more focus on your subject causing the background to blur out even more.  This is an effect that i really like to use!
