There are several ways of making someone look a little smaller in a picture. The one i use the most is directional lighting with a background. It shadows out a whole side of your subject, and also adds a little bit of a dramatic touch to that picture. The second is having your model turn at the waist, or upper body with only your head looking toward the camera, this also helps make your model look a little smaller. Also if your posing several people together, pose the biggest person so they're not the closest to the camera. Having smaller people closer to the camera helps balance out size.
