Last gasp of summer

Nature photography has been something that

I've enjoyed since I first seriously picked up a camera.  That is a big

reason why i post a lot of nature work.  To me there is just something poetic about a good

image of nature.

Be it vibrant colors of spring! like the red of a rose to the bright yellow of a 

swallowtail butterfly.

The same goes for fall.  Flowers blooming for the last time for the year, or the brilliant show the trees

put on with oranges, and yellows.

Today's post deals with a few remaining flowers i could find.

Gettiing props ready to use

It getting ready for the up and coming holiday season, I figured i would share what I'm doing to get ready.

I use an artificial tree, with white lights evenly hung on the different sections of the tree.  I follow this up with some nice size ornaments ( easily seen, but not distracting ).  Next, I use either a solid black backdrop, a velvet back drop of different seasonal colors.  If using someone dressed as Santa, be sure not to use red as it may blend with your Santa. If your on location and have a  fitting setting for the pictures, a backdrop may not need to be used..  Then used packaging boxes make for good presents.  I use any size i can get within reason.  Add some studio lighting, camera, and all you need are people for your portrait session.  Of course you can change your set up depending on what you want and can afford.  For me this is just cost effective!

Newborn baby pictures

The best time to take those adorable newborn pictures is within 6-9 days after birth.  This is the best time

for getting those posed shots of your baby..  Nine months to a year, for your next set of pictures. 

Clothing for your baby, and yourself depends on the images you are wanting.  We will talk about that before your session.  I do suggest that the mother be in at least some of the images.  A newborn or toddler session typically last from an hour to 2 hours.

Character driven photography

One type of portraiture i like to do is what I call character driven, or creative photography.  For this i use a model that is dressed like some type of profession ( ballerina, Firefighter), or some made up character( fairy, elf). I like to use directional lighting, for a little depth in my image.  I also like to use a black backdrop, and props related to who my model is dressed like. I think this is best for those who are into steam punk, revolutionary, civil war reenactment, or a kid whose parent want a portrait related to what their kids are interested in, like, sports, and clubs.

This type of portraiture can also be done on location!
