The Gray House

The Gray House

"Informal Yet Distinctive" is what the sign on the road reads as you approach this little gem in Starr SC. This place is every bit of that phrase. After all, Starr is a small little country town with one, maybe two, signal lights. Not a fast paced place at all, but that is what adds to the charm of The Gray House. Once you pull onto the grounds, you see what I think are a handful of pecan trees out front. Past those, you walk up the front steps to see swings located on either side of the front porch. Talk about relaxing. I might just stay there one weekend just to be able to sit on those swings and take in the nice country air, or listen to the crickets and frogs once it gets dark! Now that we are at the front door, (If it’s not during business hours, I would call ahead) go right on in. You are greeted warmly. Right off the bat you feel welcome. You are then taken to your table. You really are eating at an old Victorian style house. In the background you can hear a little music being played, and not current hits mind you. What you hear are oldies which in my mind fits the ambience of The Gray House. What I ordered was the Amish Backed Chicken. It was awesome! Which really isn't a surprise. I really can't say enough about the owner, Kathy Stone, and her staff. I've photographed a lot of weddings but never have I come across a staff like this one. Not to say the others are bad, but just that this one is truly that great. They really do care at The Gray House!
